Hello Everyone,

Well, term three has sure been an exciting and busy term. Room 14 learnt a lot about enterprise as we designed, created and marketed our own product for the Student Fete. We were so excited that we sold all our Pet Rocks and managed to make a profit too. We also learnt a lot about the difference between 'needs' and 'wants' while choosing what to spend our money on. Thanks again to Mrs Gallen and Mrs Slee for their help on the day. It was a little bit busy but a lot of fun.

Oliver, Tegan, Holly, Shawn, Cohen, Jacob and Naveed participated in the Cross Country and we are all so proud of them. It really is a long way for little ones to run and they should be so proud of the determination and persistence they showed in finishing the race. I am also very proud of the rest of Room 14 as they showed a great sense of community when they cheered on and supported their classmates. Fantastic job Room 14!

This term we have been focusing on how to build a sentence to create more interesting writing. We have been building our vocabulary with new 'Wow Words' and learning how to use a dictionary to look up the meaning of words. Although in this modern world Google has replaced this skill, it is still important for students to be able to look up words in alphabetical order and learn to decipher the meaning of words using our knowledge of antonyms and synonyms.

Thank you to all the parents for all their support during this busy term and we look forward to another fun and exciting time in term 4!

Fun and Busy Times Ahead!

Hello Everyone,

We are now almost into week 5 of term 3. Time sure does flys when you are having fun! The next few weeks are extremely busy with the Student Fete, Science Week, Book Week and Sports Carnival all on this term.

School Fete

Week 6 is the Student Fete where each class has the opportunity to have its own stall. Our class has designed, and are in the process of making Pet Rocks. Each student has designed two Pet Rocks after researching them on the internet. Naveed was clever enough to come up with the business name of Rocknificant for Room 14 which we all voted as the best name. We also had to produce a business plan and use our math skills to create a budget, so it has been a valuble learning experience! Next we are creating posters to put up around the school. We are hoping to make some money to spend on the class. Ideas for what we can spend our money on ranges from more whiteboard markers to new literacy and numeracy games for the class. I am hoping to have one or two parent volunteers during the Student Fete. If this is something you will be interested in please let me know. It will only be in the afternoon and involve supervising giving change, or walking students around the fete.

Literacy Focus

This term in Room 14 we are really concentrating on our suistained writing. Students are really enjoying the 'Roll a Story' Game during literacy stations. Each student uses a chart and a dice to find which character, setting and problem they need to add into their story. We are beginning to see a lot of very imaginative stories being created and I am very proud of the level of engagement displayed too.

Room 14's Assembly

Room 14's Assembly was a huge sucess thanks to all the hardwork and enthusasim from its class members. The students did a great job singing and dancing and they looked great in their costumes. Thank you to all the parents too, who typed out the Minibeast reports and helped students get into their costumes. Great Effort Team !

Assembly Time - Week 7

Hi Everyone,

This Friday is Room 14's assembly. We are very excited ! As the students have made their own costumes in art class all they need to wear is a block colour as per the Minibeast they have been allocated to. Crickets are asked to wear all green, Ladybugs and Bugs can wear all black. It will be cold so please make sure the clothes are warm enough to stand an hour outside in the undercover area.  If you are unsure what is appropriate please see me. Also your child's school uniform should also be e packed on Friday so they can get changed after the assembly.

I will be looking for some parent volunteers to help us put the costumes on in the art room in the morning. If you think you could help it would be greatly appreciated. Could students come to the art room at 8:15 please?

Thanks
Miss Mills

Hi Everyone,

Here is an example of the lay out of the Minibeast Report. Sorry for the delay but I was having I.T issues! I have the coloured card at school and we will be assembling them all together this friday. If you would like to assemble it yourself please come and see me and I can give the card to you to take home. The diagrams will be completed in class on Thursday.

Finished Projects.

Hi Everyone,

We have been hard at work over the last fortnight designing and creating our own playgrounds. The finished products have been fabulous! It never ceases to amaze me the creative products that children in an early childhood are able to produce.

Thanks to all the parents who donated recycled materials.

Miss Mills.

Hello Everyone,
Well it is Week 4 already and isn't this term flying by us already! This term, our theme of Minibeasts is integrated with our Biological Sciences outcome, of Life and Living. We have already learnt a lot of really exciting facts about Minibeasts and can’t wait to learn more! Over the next few weeks, the students of Room 14 will be writing a report on a Minibeast of their own choosing. Your child might need some assistance with their homework on this task, which will entail researching information and typing up their information into their report. Should you have any queries about this, please see me, however this Friday, I shall be sending home an overview of what information is needed for the report.
Friday of Week 7 is Room 14’s assembly. Next week, each child will go home with lines to learn. Please practice these every night, so that they will feel confident to speak in front of an audience. Costumes are being made in art class and the children are going to look fantastic! I will let you know what colour clothes students need to wear closer to the time. I hope you can all make it.
Last assembly, we won the Music Class Award and I must say I was not that surprised! We certainly do have a musical and theatrical bunch within Room 14. A photo below shows the trophy and the recipients. They certainly do look pleased with themselves!
At the end of last term, Room 14 had to plan and design a playground. This was a fantastic T&E project and really gave me an insight into the creativity of the cohort. Please feel free to peruse the photos of their creations. If only we had the money to make them come true! I wouldn’t mind a donut maker in the playground!

Welcome to Room 14!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Miss Mills and I am extremely excited to be teaching Year 1 & 2 in Room 14, at Wattle Grove Primary School. Thank you to all the parents and students who have made me feel so welcome over the last few weeks. I look forward to an exciting year of exploration and learning. The last few weeks have been very busy. We have spent some time getting to know each other and identifying our academic goals for the term. Please feel free to browse through the photos of ‘Our Goals’ display which was really fun to make.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce another very special member of Room 14. He’s name is WALT and he loves high fives, cuddles and fist pumps. WALT’s name stands for ‘We Are Learning To’ and he supports the students of Room 14 to revise what they have been learning at the end of lessons. Students who are able to answer questions about the concept they are learning are able to receive a high five, fist pump from WALT. WALT is very excited to learn about the ‘Wattle Grove Way’ and is having fun getting to know the students of Room 14. I look forward to posting more in the next few weeks but until then please take care.

Regards Miss Mills.
